GSC Student Committees
Any Gemstone student can join a GSC Committee! All meetings are held at 3 p.m. every other Friday in Ellicott 0100.
Academic Affairs

The Academic Affairs Committee strives to improve the academic structure of the Gemstone Program by facilitating communication between Gemstone students and the Gemstone faculty and staff. The Academic Affairs Committee also hosts programs for Gemstone students on various academic topics, including study abroad, medical school, study skills, and test taking. The Academic Affairs Committee represents Gemstone students and their academic concerns by:
- Holding forums for discussion of academic issues in Gemstone
- Meeting with Gemstone faculty and staff to share student concerns
- Communicating with students through cohort-specific emails, the Gemstone FYI, forums, announcements at Gemstone colloquia, the Gemstone website, and word of mouth.
Public Relations

The Public Relations Committee, strives to publicize the Gemstone Program among high school seniors, the campus community, and beyond. It keeps current Gemstone students informed about the Program.
The Public Relations Committee is responsible for
- "The Stone", Gemstone's student generated newsletter
- Maryland Day
- Open House panels
- Phone calls to prospective Gemstone students
Student Activities

The Student Activities Committee strives to bring all Gemstone students together to provide drug- and alcohol-free events that build friendships and relationships within the Gemstone Program. These activities also promote a personal connection to the Gemstone Program and raise student morale.
The Student Activities Committee hosts programs such as
- Sporting events
- Dances, including the Gemstone December Formal
- Barbeques
- Trips to cultural and sporting events
