Gemstone/Ellicott Service Committee
Are you interested in service? E-mail the Graduate Assistant for Student Development to get involved.
The Gemstone Ellicott Service Committee is run completely by and for students. The GESC provides the opportunity to participate in a variety of community service experiences. It was founded by Gemstone students who wanted to make a difference in and strengthen the University of Maryland and College Park communities. Although the name signifies exclusiveness, this group welcomes any University student.
The GESC strives to organize a variety of different projects so that members can always have new and exciting experiences. In the past, the GESC has worked with a variety of organizations, including the:
- College Park Youth Service Center
- Children's Developmental Clinic
- Compassion Center
- Many local food shelters
- AIDS walk
During the fall semester, the GESC has held these great events:
- Halloween card creation for children at a local hosiptal
- Knitting blankets for premature babies
- Bake sale to raise money for Toys for Tots
- Video game tournament to raise money for Toys for Tots
The GESC is a great way to meet new people, have rewarding experiences and help the community at large. We are always looking for motivated and optimistic students who are interested in actively helping their school and the community. Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments-we'd love to hear from you!
