Goals and Objectives (First Six taken from Timeline for Team Success):

  • Develop a focus for your research topic.
  • Develop short and long term goals (including the form of the final output, besides the thesis, like a journal article, a product, community action, etc.).
  • Collect literature/articles, review for relevance and research ideas, summarize them and discuss with team. Set an amount per team member (i.e., ten per member for the semester).
  • Develop a research question.
  • Identify one or two team members to serve as a liaison for monthly meetings with Gemstone staff.
  • Begin design of team website.
  • Add team specific short term goals here.

Expectations/Ground Rules/Norms:

  • Be on time for class.
  • Respect and professionalism are two qualities we value and will maintain in all Gemstone activities and interactions.
  • Strive for open and clear communication.
  • Offer praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement.
  • Come prepared to class to be productive.
  • Volunteer to perform tasks that are necessary for team and project development.
Have someone prepare agendas and minutes for each class.
  • In decision making, a consensus will be our highest aim. A quorum of team members is required to make any decisions. A vote can be taken if requested by three people. A majority wins in a voting scenario.

Attendance Policy:

We will respect up to 2 scheduled absences by each team member. These absences include other scholarly activities, professional commitment or family commitment in which the team member does not have complete freedom to reschedule. These will be noted in advance.
